The sad news of Roger ROY passing away was met with great sadness by the global Mantodea community. Roger had been working on the order of Mantodea for the last 63 years. He is the author of numerous groundbreaking scientific articles and is now lining up with the most influential names in this field like WESTWOOD, GIGLIO-TOS, WERNER, BEIER and CHOPARD.
For many current Mantodea researchers and experts he was a mentor, hero and friend. In the last twenty years I have had the huge privilege of getting to know and working with Roger very closely. He will always be in my thoughts and I am heartbroken. My condolences also go out to all his family, colleagues and friends. I am sure that I am joined by many when I say that you will be sorely missed, Roger.....

The Mantodea Species File (MSF) is a taxonomic database of the world's praying mantids (Order Mantodea), both of fossil and living species. The MSF has full synonymic and taxonomic information for over 2,400 valid species. A future aim of this database is to provide images of the specimens deposited in museums worldwide (especially types), as well as pictures of living praying mantids in the wild and in captivity.
This database originated with Otte and Spearman`s (2005) Mantida Species File catalog but is now following the classification of Schwarz & Roy (2019).
To see information contained in the database, use the links across the top of the
page. Click on
Search to find a specific taxon or other kinds of information. Clicking
on Taxa will make the
order Mantodea your current taxon unless you have previously moved to a different
taxon in this session.
This website and database use Species File Software. Information about the
design and use of SFS may be found on a separate website.
